Erin has been working hard at judo for 3 years now. Judo, like wrestling, is a weight classed sport; weight and strength are a clear advantage. Erin has been fighting tournaments for three years, but is so petite and so young she generally fights exhibitions with kids or adults much larger than herself. Last spring was the first time Erin has anyone near her size to fight, she gave up 12 pounds and lost soundly. She was happy to have a real fight though.

This weekend Erin had a competitor within two pounds of her weight, officially 45#. While she help a two pound and three year learning advantage, Erin not only displayed good judo skills but also an excellent sportsman attitude. After soundly winning her first match, she lost the second match to the same competitor (double elimination). When Coach/Mom tried to talk to her about it her response was, "Mom, I let him win, nobody likes to lose every time."

After soundly winning the final match by a pin, Mom again tried for a teachable moment. "great pin Erin, I am glad you remembered to throw and pin..." the response? "MOM, I didn't want to throw and pin him in one move and knock the wind clear out of him, he is only a white belt you know!" I guess mom just isn't too teachable
